Changes on Metrolink

The past few weeks have seen some more changes on Manchester Metrolink with a tram returning to service after an absence whilst there has been one advert removed and three new ones applied.

We start off this review with the tram which has returned to service, and that is 3012. We reported back in mid-August that 3012 had joined the stored trams (along with 3092 plus longer-term absentees 3015, 3100 and 3027) but its period out of service was not to be for too long as in early September it was back in use once more. We have it noted in service on the Manchester Airport line on 8th September and although it was forced back to depot during the day with an unknown fault this was obviously relatively minor as it was soon back out again and has been seen in use regularly since.

On the livery front and 3117 has now lost its advert for Yayoi Kusama Aviva Studio. This, the fourth advert to be carried by the tram, was only applied in July 2023 and so was a fairly short lived design.

But we may have lost one advert but no fewer than three new ones have now been applied to make up for it! Those three trams are 3047, 3066 and 3115.

For 3047 it’s a third advert with it now advertising Marc Jacobs, 3066 is now advertising TUI (again a third advert for the tram) and 3115 carries a wrap for Selfridges (just the second advert for that tram). Whilst Marc Jacobs and TUI are new advertisers, the ad for Selfridges marks a return for the company who previously advertised on 3045 in late 2014.

I’m fairly sure that the Selfridges wrap applied to 3045 and mentioned in this article was the very first advertising wrap to be carried by one of the M5000s.
