Cheaper travel for under 22s on Nottingham Express Transit confirmed

Any resident of Nottinghamshire aged under 22 is set to be eligible for discounted tram travel on the Nottingham Express Transit network after the operator confirmed their participation in the council’s cheaper travel scheme.

Starting from Sunday 3rd September anyone aged under 22 who is resident in Nottingham will benefit from the same discounted fares as those already enjoyed by those still in education. The scheme is being funded through the central government’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).

The new fares will mean anyone who qualifies will be able to purchase a single ticket for £2.40 and a day pass for £4.00. Meanwhile, an annual pass will be £350 (just under £30 a month, and less than £1 day). Savings mean that a single journey is now 20% cheaper and an annual ticket sees a 57% discount.

Alison Sweeney, Head of Marketing at NET, said: “We’re always looking for ways to help as many of our customers as possible, especially with the current cost of living crisis – if people can’t afford travel then they’ll miss out on all sorts of opportunities that are available in the city and suburbs across the whole county. We know that younger people often have less disposable income. Our student tickets have helped to make Nottinghamshire more accessible for many years, but this new scheme helps to plug the gap for the many young people who aren’t students. They’ll now be able to also benefit from the subsidised travel, with savings of up to 57%.”
