Stop by Stop Edinburgh Trams: Newhaven extension – Port of Leith

Our journey on the newest stretch of open tramway in the UK continues in “Stop by Stop” today – we now reach the third stop of the Trams to Newhaven extension at Port of Leith.

We depart Ocean Terminal, passing a crossover almost immediately before there is a sharp curve to the right. Ocean Drive comes with us and we’re now in one of the most picturesque sections of the route as we have the Albert Dock Basin to the left as we travel along. The likelihood here is that you’re some ships in the docks and we go over a bridge with the Water of Leith heading underneath. After a little while, and after passing the floating hotel MS Fingal, we then reach the stop at Port of Leith.

Its another island platform for us here and as normal it has shelters, ticket machines and validators, passenger information displays, information panels with timetable and fares details, seating and lighting. We’re in a residential area here now with flats at Stevedore Place having excellent transport links provided with the trams going from straight outside their door.

255 arrives at Port of Leith with a service from Newhaven to Airport. Its just pulling up to the island platform and we can see the various standard additions to a stop in Edinburgh.

Here we see 273 arriving at the stop bound for Newhaven. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior, 2nd July 2023)
