In Pictures: Volks Electric Railway – May 2023

The Volk’s Electric Railway in Brighton will be celebrating 140 years of operation this year (a special weekend is planned in August as the centrepiece of the celebrations) and started its 2023 season back in April. Trains are now running all the way between the Aquarium and Black Rock (just short of the Marina) with a fleet of six units available for use. On most busy days two double sets run and that was the case on Saturday 13th May when Tony Sullivan paid a quick visit.

8+7 have left Black Rock and are making their way towards Half Way with a service to Aquarium.

6+10 run alongside Marine Drive and are nearing Black Rock.

10+6 round the last of the bends past the beach volley ball site and the new buildings which look like the old fishing lofts on the sea front at Hastings and seem to house a restaurant.

6+10 again as they head back towards Black Rock.

8+7 run alongside Marine Drive with some of the various buildings on the beach visible.

7+8 sit at Aquarium before leaving with a service to Black Rock. (All Photographs by Tony Sullivan, 13th May 2023)
