Gyle Santa Express returns to Edinburgh Trams for 2022!

We’re used to seeing Santa specials on various heritage railways and the like but its not often that the big man gets to travel on board modern transport – but he will get the chance in Edinburgh on two days at the start of December as the Gyle Santa Express returns to Edinburgh!

Edinburgh Trams and Gyle Shopping Centre are now joining forces to give families the chance to go on a magical journey from Gyle Centre to St Andrew Square on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th December. Father Christmas himself will be travelling on the tram with children set to receive a goodie bag and selection box on the journey.

The Gyle Santa Express will run as follows:

  • Sunday 4th December – departing Gyle Centre at 1025, 1140, 1250
  • Monday 5th December – departing Gyle Centre at 1140

Tickets cost £5 for 1 adult and 1 child with additional adults costing £3.50. All proceeds go towards the Edinburgh Trams charity of the year – Breast Friends & Family. Tickets can be purchased in advance from http://www.edinburghticket.com, they can then be downloaded onto a smart device or printed out before being shown to a staff member at Gyle Centre tramstop. The ticket also allows you to travel back on any tram from St Andrew Square to Gyle Centre.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said: “We always want to bring the festive spirit to our network and there’s no better way to do it than by inviting Santa to ride with us. We’re looking forward to welcoming children onboard for these very special trips which will also raise money for a very worthy cause.”
