Blackpool Transport fares to increase from 25th September

Sunday 25th September will see another rise in fares on all Blackpool Transport trams and buses. The continued rising costs of running the service coupled with a pay rise being offered to staff means that the increases are necessary to help the company cover their costs. At the same time a daily cap will also be introduced for anyone who uses contactless payments on services.

The statement on the Blackpool Transport website says: “We want to continue bringing you excellent value travel but in the same way, you will see across the UK, our business costs are increasing substantially. We too are affected by the rising costs of energy and utilities and the diesel we use in our buses is rising by an extra 50p per litre. That is a sizeable increase when we’re using 5,500 litres of fuel daily to keep you moving. Not only this, we need to support our team. Our colleagues are receiving a deserved pay increase to help and protect them from the current cost of living crisis and the rise in utility costs. We’ve tried very hard to continue providing you excellent value for money and have kept many fares lower than inflation.”

The new adult fares due to be in place from Sunday 25th September include:

Tram Single – £2.90 (up from £2.60)

Tram Return – £5.00 (up from £4.50)

1 Hour – £3.60 (up from £3.30)

24 Hour – £6.20 on mobile app (up from £5.50), £6.60 on board (up from £6.00)

5 x 24 Hour – £29.00 on mobile app (up from £25.85)

3 Day – £15.50 on mobile app (up from £13.50), £16.50 on board (up from £15.00)

7 Day – £17.50 on mobile app (up from £15.50), £18.50 on board (up from £17.00)

From the same date daily capping will be introduced for adult fares using Tap&Go and single contactless fares. This means that no matter how many times you tap your payment type within a day you will only be charged up to the cost of a day ticket. This is a trial of the new technology and once Blackpool Transport are confident that it is working correctly they may look at extending it to capping for longer periods of time.
