In this latest article featuring construction works on the Trams to Newhaven project in Edinburgh, we head to Ocean Terminal to look at recent progress. This has included work on the stop plus trackworks as main works start to come towards a conclusion with trams due to start running in spring 2023.
After the first shelter was installed at McDonald Road tramstop a few weeks ago more have appeared on the extension. Balfour Street now has its own whilst Ocean Terminal is also now receiving is shelter. The design remains consistent with the rest of the network. In this photo Ocean Terminal is behind the photographer and the track on the nearside of platform is for trams into the city and thence the Airport, which will head left as we look at it.
Ocean Terminal has also received the tramstop signs. This is thought to be just the second stop after McDonald Road to have these fitted.
Taken from the multi-storey car park at the south east end of Ocean Terminal this view is looking roughly west along Ocean Drive towards the Newhaven terminus. The Newhaven platforms commences as the tracks reach the modern flats in the middle background. The tracks rise up the slope to Lindsay Road, just before which there is a double crossover. The sheds on the centre right are part of the Edinburgh flour mill of ADM Milling at Western Harbour.
We’re again in the multi-storey car park for this shot which looks southeast over the Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh Waterfront and new flats with the 1960s tower blocks, Citadel Court and Persevere Court beyond. The trackwork in the foreground is for trams to Newhaven which will proceed right. The track for trams heading to the Airport is in the foreground between the lines of red and white barriers, currently delineating the pedestrian route through the works here.
