Joint ticket unveiled for Great North Run

Anyone heading to the Great North Run on Sunday 11th September should have no worries in getting there after a new joint Metro, bus and ferry ticket was unveiled. Costing just £6 the Great North Run ticket will let runners and spectators alike travel on all Metro, bus and ferry services throughout the day, including special express shuttle buses running from South Shields seafront to Newcastle.

The ticket is available now as a special advance purchase paper ticket from Metro ticket machines and also as a runner’s wristband from the Nexus website.

Nexus and local bus operators are combining after the event to run extra Metro and bus services to help speed up the traditional queue.

Cllr Tracey Dixon, Leader of South Tyneside Council, said: “We’re delighted to see transport operators working together to provide a special one-day travel ticket for use on the Metro, Shields Ferry and buses on Great North Run day. We are always extremely proud to host the spectacular finish line and we can’t wait to welcome it back this year. It is such a special event that brings thousands of people to South Shields seafront. Anything that makes the process of getting around much simpler and smoother for both runners and spectators is fantastic news.”

This ticket will only be available for travel on Sunday 11th September and can be used for travel on buses operated by Arriva, Stagecoach and Go North East as well as Nexus along with the Tyne and Wear Metro and the Shields Ferry.
