New Chair for UK Tram Light Rail Engineering Group

Ian Hale, Infrastructure Manager at London Trams, has been elected as the new Chair for the UK Tram Light Rail Engineering Group (LREG) at their latest meeting. He replaces outgoing Chair Ian Middlemiss from Transport for Greater Manchester.

Ian Hale has a wealth of experience as a chartered engineer, consultant and rail project manager and in commenting on his election he said how honoured he was: “I’m looking forward to building on the excellent work of Ian Middlemiss and this group in sharing best practice and exploring innovative solutions to the engineering challenges faced by the sector.”

Also at their most recent meeting the group heard about a research project being undertaken into embedded track renewals. Support was expressed for this initiative with a follow-up session set to refine the scope of the research and to develop a questionnaire for industry members requesting their feedback on other potential projects.
