Picture in Time: Blackpool Brush 623

In this instalment of “Picture in Time”, we take a look at Blackpool Brush 623 in the sunshine in September 1976.

Brush Railcoach 623 had been introduced into service in September 1937 – under its original number of 286 – and would remain serviceable in Blackpool until the end of the 2009 season when it was withdrawn. Acquired for eventual operation at the Heaton Park Tramway in Manchester the tram was initially transported to the Museum of Museum at Trafford Park before early 2012 saw it arrive at Heaton Park. As can be seen from this photo the tram had received the single destination indicator by this time with this work having been completed two years earlier in 1974.

In this evening shot at Fleetwood Ferry we see the tram illuminated by the sunshine with a high tide and the mountains of the Lake District clearly visible over the water.
