Another Eccles line closure for more rail replacement works

There will be no trams between MediaCityUK and Eccles for four weeks in April as the next series of Manchester Metrolink rail replacement works gets underway. The work will see buses replace trams on this section between Monday 4th and Friday 29th April.

A number of locations on the route between MediaCityUK and Eccles will see worn rails replaced and there will also be further closures to come later in the summer to complete the major works required on this line.

From Monday 4th until Friday 29th April all trams from Ashton-under-Lyne will only run as far as MediaCityUK with a like-for-like replacement bus service then running through to Eccles. It is planned that there will be more double trams running on the line during this work.

Daniel Vaughan, TfGM Head of Metrolink, said: “We’re sorry for the inconvenience we know this partial closure of the Eccles line will cause, but we will be doing everything we can to minimise disruption. The Metrolink Eccles line is undergoing a planned programme of essential maintenance works to replace the 20-year-old rails and ensure we can continue to operate a safe and reliable service for years to come. We’ll have a like-for-like bus replacement service in place, staff out along the line and contractors working around the clock to complete this project as soon as possible. I’d encourage customers using the network to plan ahead and allow extra time when making their journey.”
