Out and About: West Midlands Metro in Wolverhampton

We are off to the West Midlands Metro today for this edition of “Out and About” as we feature trams in action at the current sole Wolverhampton terminus.

That terminus is Wolverhampton St George’s which, although not in its original configuration (having lost one platform face and seeing a platform length extension), is the first terminus for the Metro in the city but will eventually be joined by one outside the railway station when that extension opens. This first photo shows one of the first batch of CAF built trams – 24 standing at the terminus.

Same numbers, different order! One of the new order of trams, no. 42, is also seen at Wolverhampton St George’s. Note that the tram doesn’t have its pantograph raised with some trams continuing to approach the terminus on battery power.

Another look at 42 as it stands at Wolverhampton St George’s. (All Photographs by Roland Bull, 7th January 2022)
