New ticket offer allows you to travel from Dundee to Edinburgh Airport – for almost the same price as from Edinburgh City Centre!

Anyone travelling from Dundee to Edinburgh Airport will be able to benefit from a new joint ticket which will allow them to travel by electric bus and then tram all the way. Ember bus services from Dundee currently serve Ingliston Park and Ride and now all anyone has to do to get to the Airport is get off the bus and hop on the tram for no extra cost.

Ember – who operate electric buses between Dundee and Ingliston – and Edinburgh Trams have come to an agreement which means Ember tickets are now valid for travel on the trams to get passengers the last short distance to the Airport. There is no increase in price to take advantage in this with fares between Dundee and the Airport costing only £7.50. There are also lower fares from towns closer to Ingliston.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said: “The electric buses and our trams really do complement each other,” he said. “Neither produce harmful emissions, and they provide a great way to get around while reducing road congestion. We are delighted to be working with Ember on this new initiative that will make it easier than ever for people to step off the UK’s first all-electric, inter-city buses and onto Edinburgh’s popular tram network, which has services from every seven minutes to the airport.”

Whilst this collaboration between the two firms is undoubtedly good news it also once again makes you question the surcharge tram passengers have if they wish to travel between Ingliston and the Airport. A single between any two stops on the trams as far as Ingliston is currently £1.80 whilst anyone wanting a single to include the Airport has to fork out £6.50 – so it is almost as cheap to travel from Dundee to the Airport than it is from Edinburgh City Centre!

Once the “white elephant”..aka Newhaven extension is open, it will be interesting to see if Edinburgh Trams review their fares !
