Free tram travel for under 22s in Edinburgh confirmed

All residents in Edinburgh aged under 22 are now entitled to free travel on the entire Edinburgh Trams network it has been confirmed. The Scottish Government scheme was only funded for free bus travel but after a lot of will-they, won’t-they debate it has now been extended to the trams too as from Monday 31st January 2022.

Anyone who wants to benefit from the scheme has to apply for and receive a new Scottish Entitlement Card – previously issued cards are not valid and without one you won’t be able to take this offer up and must pay standard fares. It is also only available to Edinburgh residents, with anyone from other areas of Scotland not qualifying for the free travel.

The Scottish National Entitlement Card or Young Scot National Entitlement Card has to be validated on the platform validator before boarding the tram and presented to on-board staff for inspection when requested.

Free travel will be available on the entire route from Edinburgh Airport to York Place (or West End from 10th February!).
