In Pictures: A trip up to Blackpool North tram terminus

In this latest pictorial update on the construction of the Blackpool Tramway extension up Talbot Road to Blackpool North Railway Station we concentrate on recent progress up at the former Wilko’s site. Photos from Peter Dockerty.

After the flurry of activity in the initial laying of tracks a few weeks ago it appears at first glance that little progress has been made more recently although if you take a closer look it’s a slightly different picture. Since the tracks were first put down they have been “floating” in mid air but a wire mesh has now been installed under the rails in preparation for the pouring of concrete to firmly keep the track in position. Further up the line and there remains some prep work to be done in levelling the surface to allow the last of the rail to be installed.

This view is at the very front of the worksite where the tracks come in from Talbot Road for the final approach to the terminus. As can be seen here the wire mesh is in place in readiness for the concrete pour.

This photo is dominated by the framework of the new hotel but just in front of that you can see some more straight rails awaiting laying. There is a section of trackbed which still needs levelling off and once this is done these rails will also be able to be laid. (Both Photographs by Peter Dockerty, 24th July 2021)
