Around the World in Trams: San Diego 1001

Before we return to Europe from our brief stay in the United States of America during 2006 we move on for a very quick look at the streetcar system in San Diego.

Taken on 15th September 2006 this photo shows 1001 with a service to Old Town on the Blue line.

1001 is a Duewag U2 streetcar, a design which started off life on the Frankfurt U-Bahn and has also seen examples run in Edmonton and Calgary in Canada. 1001 was built in 1980 and remains operational today but is designated as a museum car and is now used on the Silver line, a 2.7 mile long heritage service which runs on selected days.
