In Pictures: Update from the overhead work in Blackpool

With tracklaying at the old Wilko’s site having come to a temporary stop (with more of the track base now needed to be out down before further track towards the terminus is laid) the main focus of our Blackpool construction updates are likely to be the installation of overhead along Talbot Road for the next few weeks.

As we’ve mentioned before in these articles, in order to reduce disruption the work will be taking place overnight and will include road closures to allow the contractors to safely string the new wires. Since the work resumed overnight on 5th July progress has been slow and steady with span wires still the order of the day.

The view in Talbot Square on 7th July showing the span wires which have been put up so far.

On the Prom tramway and a few more span wires can be seen but no actual overhead wires yet. (Photographs x2 by Tony Armitage, 7th July 2021)

24 hours later on 8th July and one further span wire has been installed on the main line.

And a further three span wires on the south curve. (Photographs x2 by Tony Armitage, 8th July 2021)
