Lockdown Walks: Edinburgh Trams 274

“Lockdown Walks” continues as we take another look at a tram running in Edinburgh City Centre.

Throughout this series we have seen empty streets surrounding the trams but as we see in this below photo that scene has been changing during May with more crowds flocking to Princes Street now that shops have been able to reopen making it more reminiscent of scenes we were used to seeing pre-March 2020.

In this photo we see 274 between the stops at St Andrew Square and Princes Street as it works a service bound for the Airport. Old Waverley Hotel (originally a temperance hotel) is seen on the corner of Princes Street and South Saint David Street which is an 1880s rebuild of an earlier building. The dark blue Airport bus is just visible at its current terminus in front of the modern building with TK Maxx on the ground floor. (Photograph by Roy Calderwood, 22nd May 2021)
