Update – Current services on operating systems across the British Isles

As restrictions continue to be eased we thought it was time to bring another summary of what services are being operated on tram and light rail systems across the British Isles. This is just the “public service” systems and doesn’t include any heritage tramways – to find out the latest on those please take a look at this article ( ) where we have full details on those.

Blackpool Tramway

Until Saturday 15th May

Monday to Friday

Trams running every 20 minutes between 0700 and 1700 with a tram every 30 minutes from 0530 to 0700 and from 1700 to end of service.

Last tram from Starr Gate at 2215 with a return from Fleetwood at 2315

Saturday

Trams running every 20 minutes between 0700 and 1700 with a tram every 30 minutes from 0600 to 0700 and from 1700 to end of service

Last tram from Starr Gate at 2215 with a return from Fleetwood at 2315.

From Sunday 16th May

Monday to Friday

Trams running every 12 minutes between 0700 and 1800 with reduced frequencies at other times.

First tram from Starr Gate at 0500. Last tram from Starr Gate at 2315 with a return from Fleetwood at 0018.

Saturday

Trams running every 12 minutes between 0700 and 2000 with reduced frequencies at other times.

First tram from Starr Gate at 0600. Last tram from Starr Gate at 2315 with a return from Fleetwood at 0018.

Sunday

Trams running every 12 minutes between 0700 and 1800 with reduced frequencies at other times. First tram from Starr Gate at 0700. Last tram from Starr Gate at 2315 with a return from Fleetwood at 0018.

Trams running every 15 minutes seven days a week.

First tram from York Place at 0530. First tram from the Airport at 0618.

Last tram from York Place at 2330. Last tram from the Airport at 2248.

London Tramlink

0600-1900 every 10 minutes

Blue route: Up to every 15 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes at other times

Purple route: Every 30 minutes

Yellow route: Normal timetable (up to every 10-12 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes at other times)

Tram-Train service: 2 services an hour

Sunday

Blue route: Every 20 minutes

Purple route: Every 30 minutes

Yellow route: Every 20 minutes at other times)

Tram-Train service: 2 services an hour

Tyne and Wear Metro

Up to every 7 minutes (reduced frequency early morning and evenings)

Up to every 10 minutes

Up to every 10 minutes

Remember, unless exempt face coverings are compulsory on all tram services across the British Isles. The information provided above is the basic service information taken from the official websites of the systems mentioned. Some websites are much better than others with timetables often very difficult to find (if at all!) as the service frequency is considered to be so regular that you don’t need to know exactly when the next tram may run! Where normal timetable is shown above this is the same frequency as was running pre-Covid. If you are planning to travel on any system we advise you check before travelling, not only for the service running but also any special rules in place.
