West Midlands Metro and Seaton Tramway back government Kick Start scheme

Young unemployed people are being given the opportunity to get their first steps on the job ladder thanks to the government’s Kickstart scheme – and both the Seaton Tramway and West Midlands Metro are backing the scheme which is aimed at 16-24 year olds on Universal Credit.

At the Seaton Tramway they are looking for a Marketing and Admin Assistant while on the West Midlands Metro a number of different roles are available including Maintenance Technical Assistants, Administrators, Customer Experience Officer and a Driver Customer Representative.

West Midlands Metro Head of HR, Claire Scrimshire, said: “The network is gearing up for the opening of extensions to Wolverhampton Railway Station and Edgbaston later this year as part of a wider expansion project, presenting a wealth of employment opportunities for local people. As part of our wider recruitment campaign we’ve teamed up with Job Centre Plus offices in Wolverhampton, Wednesbury, West Bromwich, Dudley and Walsall to offer six-month placements to nine young people looking to kickstart their career. As well as providing them with practical experience of working in a light rail environment, the scheme also aims to equip them with a wide range of useful skills and the chance to move onto a formal apprenticeship scheme.”

Applications to the roles can only be made through Job Centre’s with a request being made to the applicants Job Coach. The deadline for the West Midlands Metro roles are on Friday 23rd April.
