In Pictures: More interesting finds under Leith Walk

As work on bringing trams along Leith Walk and to Newhaven in Edinburgh continues it seems that there are still more interesting items to be found under the road surface with this latest pictorial update showing some interesting ironmongery which has recently been exposed.

The below photo shows two humps which are part of the roof structure of the bridge which passes over the railway beneath Leith Walk at this point. The railway was built by the North British Railway and formed the Edinburgh to Leith and Newhaven railway which was closed to passengers way back in 1930. A single track remains in place today and was formerly used to carry refuse to the Edinburgh waste management depot at Powderhall but is now disused.

What else is lurking under the route of the Edinburgh Trams extension?

The humps mentioned in the text are clearly seen in this photo. (Photograph by John Hampton, 9th December 2020)
