Supertram rail replacement area 3 details announced as normal frequencies reintroduced

The next stage of rail replacement works on Stagecoach Supertram will get underway from Saturday 25th July with the work due to take place between Gleadless Townend and Spring Lane. This will see no trams running between Sheffield Station and Halfway with the Purple route completely suspended. Also from this date there will be a further step-up in frequencies with a return to the standard 12 minute service during weekdays on the Blue and Yellow routes.

Area 3 works are due to take place between Saturday 25th July and Tuesday 1st September (although are subject to change as work progresses). During this period the following service is due to run:

Blue route: Malin Bridge to Sheffield Station on a revised timetable

Purple route: Will not run

Yellow route: Meadowhall to Middlewood on a normal timetable

Tram-Train: Cathedral to Rotherham Parkgate on a revised timetable

A replacement bus service will be operated by Powells Bus Company from 25th July. Route BL2 will run between Commercial Street in the city centre to Halfway.

Of note here is that the Yellow route will be running a normal (i.e. pre-Coronavirus!) timetable as from Saturday 25th July. This will see the return of a 12 minute frequency on this route (10 minutes at peak times) Monday to Friday for the first time since services were reduced in March.

The new revised Blue route timetable will also see a return to standard frequencies with the only difference here being that it is only running part route whilst these works take place.

The Tram-Train timetable will remain the current two services an hour for the immediate future.

Details of the timetables – both pre and post 25th July – are available on the Stagecoach Supertram website.

* The Area 2 works in the vicinity of White Lane will be continuing until Friday 24th July. During these works Blue route services are running as far as Gleadless Townend with buses through to Halfway.
