Picture in Time: Leeds 160

We continue our look at trams which found their way to the Middleton Railway in Leeds this week with a photo of Leeds 160 this week.

160 was one of 100 four wheel trams known as Horsfield cars introduced into service in Leeds between 1931 and 1932, of which 180 at Crich is the sole representative in preservation today. But it wasn’t always so as the Middleton Railway once had two examples in store, 202 and, this example, 160. This view shows the tram in storage at Middleton during the early 1960s. As with 517 last week the ravages of vandalism can clearly be seen in this view with the paint also peeling away significantly, leaving a not too pleasant view for anyone visiting. 160 was scrapped on site in 1967/8.
