Melbourne is again the location for this week’s overseas tram image and this time we move away from the more modern trams and feature a W class vehicle.
A total of 752 W-class trams were built for Melbourne between 1923 and 1956 with the tram in that photo, no. 981, entering service in 1953. Originally classified as a W6, 981 became a W8 in 2017 to allow it to continue in service with it now confined to the City Circle route 35. In this image on 2nd February 2020 we see the tram off to Flinders Street.
