Fares to increase on Edinburgh Trams

The latest tram company to announce revised (increased!) fares for 2020 is Edinburgh Trams with their new fares structure due to start on 2nd February. This will be the first increase in fares since 2018 and will not affect those tickets purchased in advance through the website.

Tram only ticket prices will increase by between 10p and 50p with examples of the new fares including the city zone adult single rising to £1.80 (from £1.70) and the adult airport single up to £6.50 (was £6.00). Adult day tickets will now be £4.50 (for all stops up to Ingliston and also including Lothian Buses), up by 50p, with the Airport day ticket (buses and the entire Edinburgh Trams line) will now be £10 (was £9).

Explaining the rises, Lea Harrison, Managing Director of Edinburgh Trams, said: “This is the first fares increase since early 2018. Over the years we have made significant improvements within the current line, more trams to meet with demand and running earlier and later. Increasing fares is never a popular choice, but it has been a necessary decision for Edinburgh Trams to make. These fare changes will help us to remain competitively priced, whilst allowing us to make more changes for the benefit of the customer.”

The full list of new fares can be viewed on the Edinburgh Trams website.
