New look for 215 as NET start refresh of their fleet

The refurbishment of the Nottingham Express Transit fleet has now commenced with the first example – 215 – being unveiled at Wilkinson Street depot showing off a new livery. The £300,000 project will see all 15 of the trams undergoing the work which includes new LED lights, the installation of new seats and a thorough deep clean.

The programme is being carried out by Alstom – a member of the Tramlink Nottingham consortium – at Wilkinson Street depot and items for the refurbishment are being supplied by Stewart Signs Ltd and Mitie Transport Services Ltd.

The new livery is mainly silver with green and black also featuring and means that of all the new build modern tramway systems in the UK all have now featured at least two liveries since they were opened. 215 was launched at a brief ceremony at the depot on Friday 8th March before immediately entering service.

Paul Robinson, NET General Manager, said: “The first tram to receive the makeover is set to receive a lot of attention in the coming weeks before the new look becomes a familiar sight across the network. For a system that is nine years old, our trams are in good condition and our customers have played their part in keeping them this way. However, the time was right to give them a comprehensive refresh as we build up to the launch of
the expanded network. The restyled livery for the existing fleet will complement the look of the 22 new Alstom Citadis trams which will start to enter service in advance of the Phase Two extensions to Chilwell and Clifton. We’re delighted to have finished work on the first tram in time for the ninth birthday celebrations that will include commemorative tickets for the first 1,000 customers using the vehicle and the chance to enter a special competition via our website.”

The competition is available to anyone with a special commemorative ticket with the prize a years free travel on the trams. More details on the competition and how to enter can be found at http://www.thetram.net/commemorative/.

Following the completion of 215 the next tram to receive the attention will be 214 which will be withdrawn from service soon to allow the work to take place.

I always felt the Nottingham livery was a bit drab so, to my mind, this seems quite an improvement.
