In Pictures: Birmingham Westside extension works continue

Earlier this month we reported on the plans for the Birmingham Westside extension of the West Midlands Metro with services due to start by the end of the year and testing commencing this month and now we can see how close they are to achieving the first part of this plan in these photos from Martin Miller showing the latest views of construction between Grand Central and Centenary Square.

Pinfold Street where there was a gap in the track until recently is seen here with work underway on filling in that gap as well as putting the block paving down.

Into Victoria Square – where the only intermediate stop on the first phase of the extension will be located – and track is down but final works are still needed including the top surface.

Here we see more track down and again it waits for the final top surface to be put down.

The tram stop in Victoria Square is starting to be constructed as well. (All Photographs by Martin Miller)
