Around the World in Trams: Prague 8260

A quick hop across the border between Poland and the Czech Republic as for the next few weeks we feature trams running in Prague, a city synonymous with trams.

Public transport in Prague is run by Dopravní podnik hlavíno město Prahy (DPP – The Prague Public Transport Company) which was formed in 1989 following the end of the Socialist era. The tramway features 25 daytime routes with over 500km of track and there are also nine night routes and one seasonal tourist route. With over 950 trams in service there are seven operational depots plus one which is the city’s transport museum. All in all you could say that there is quite a lot to see for the tram enthusiast!

In this image we see Tatra T3R 8260 – plus another T3 – on route 26 at Strossmayerovo namesti on 14th May 2012. There are 24 T3R trams which are T3s rebuilt with a low floor centre section and are also painted in a distinctive dark red livery. The second tram seen here is a unrebuilt T3 (this class was built by Tatra between 1971 and 1980) which has also received the revised livery.
