Another award for Edinburgh Trams

Edinburgh Trams has been rewarded for managing to increase the number of passengers using the service to the Airport with an award at the Scottish Transport Awards.

They were a winner in the Excellence in Travel Information and Marketing category as a result of a digital and offline marketing campaign which has helped to increase passenger numbers to the Airport by 60% in the past three years. The popularity of the tramway was also supported by partnerships with major airlines and travel comparison websites.

Amy Witherspoon, Assistant Marketing Manager at Edinburgh Trams, said: “Trams are a fairly recent choice for the air traveller so it was important we established ourselves both within the airport terminal and online as an attractive transport choice. We’ve supported that campaign with our own staff who are on hand to help customers with any question they may have about our wonderful city.”

Ironically, I was at St Andrew Square stop, lunchtime today when a tourist (British) asked whether he should take bus or tram to Airport. Advised him to go over Princes Street to Waberley Bridge and get an Airlink 100 bus to save money as there was little difference timewise.

Have you ever anything positive to say about this forward thinking mode of transport for Edinburgh, which year on year has exceeded expectations?
