Depot Open Day to return to Blackpool as more special events revealed

For the first time since 2010 a full depot open day – as opposed to depot tours – will be taking place at Blackpool’s Rigby Road Depot with a heritage tram shuttle from North Pier and the chance to see some of the stored tram fleet. The Open Day is due to take place on Sunday 25th August and a number of other new events for 2019 have also now been announced.

The season of new events will start over Easter with a family treasure hunt whilst one of the B fleet of Balloons will become a specially decorated Easter tram. These events will be taking place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st April.

Then for many, the highlight of these extra events will be the depot Open Day on 25th August. As mentioned above there will be a heritage tram shuttle between North Pier and Hopton Road allowing anyone wishing to visit the depot to travel in style. Inside the depot there will be the chance to see some of the stored trams as well as a look behind the scenes and it is hoped that there will be a number of visiting vintage and preserved road vehicles (bus, car, wagon etc.) on show as well. In addition there will be heritage bus trips around Blackpool – and beyond!

Although no dates have yet been confirmed 2019 will also see the return of the Pilling Tour (or a new version of it anyway)! This will feature a run to Fleetwood by tram and back by bus – or vice versa! They will run on both afternoons and evenings and both vintage trams and something a little bit more modern will feature at times during the year.

Coupled with the other heritage tram events which have firmly established themselves in the calendar which will once again happen in 2019 it looks set to be another exciting year for Heritage Tram Tours and we will be here to bring you all the key coverage throughout the year!
