Around the World in Trams: Tenerife Tram 12

Heading back around the world for another year of images from tramways outside of the British Isles our first stop is in Tenerife where over the next few weeks we will be taking a look at a few of the trams which operate on the two line system.

Tenerife Tram is the only rail borne transport in the Canary Islands with line one opening on 2nd June 2007 before a second line joined in 2009. This is the second tramway on Tenerife with the original system running between 1901 and 1951 before it was abandoned because of the perceived competition of bus and car. But that wasn’t the end of light rail on the island as construction started on the new system in 2004 ahead of opening in 2007.

The two line system has a fleet of five section Alstom Citadis 302 trams which are 100% low floor. It is one of those very trams we see below with 12 caught on camera at the northern end of line 1 at Trinidad in La Laguna. 12 is about to depart for Intercambiador (the Santa Cruz transport interchange which is 7.8 miles away. The date is 13th December 2018.
