Heaton Park to mark end of the season with special event

The Heaton Park Tramway are to celebrate the end of another successful season with an extra special event on Sunday 18th November – the End of Season Gala. A late addition to the events calendar for 2018 this will be an ideal opportunity to take a look at all five of the usual operational fleet, although only three are set to run in passenger service but it will include the chance for some rare after dark tram rides through the park.

The day starts off at 1000 with all five of the operational fleet – Stockport 5, Hull 96, Blackpool 619, Blackpool 623 and Manchester 765 – in a line-up before the day’s service gets going. This will see 96, 623 and 765 operating journeys along the line for much of the day before the Blackpool car retires allowing Hull 96 and Manchester 765 to finish the service with a rare opportunity to ride on the trams in Heaton Park after dark.

Elsewhere in Heaton Park on the day the Somme Memorial – a permanent memorial to those who lost their lives in the Battle of Somme, one of the key battles in World War I in 1916 – is due to be officially dedicated and to mark the occasion there will be buses from the Greater Museum of Transport around and Hull 96 will continue to wear its poppy wreaths.
