Still no full service on Midland Metro

Passengers wishing to travel the full length of Midland Metro are still subject to a change of trams at Jewellery Quarter with the work to repair the overhead line yet to be completed. The problems have been ongoing since the evening of Thursday 7th June with a revised service operating ever since.

The damage to the overhead happened northbound between Jewellery Quarter and Soho Benson Road with the damage severe enough to have to wait for the repairs to take place. For most of Friday, the whole weekend and into Monday 11th June trams have been running from Wolverhampton St George’s to Jewellery Quarter and then a shuttle service from Jewellery Quarter to Grand Central.

It has now been announced that the repairs will be taking place late on Monday 11th June and as a result from 2200 trams will only be running between Wolverhampton St George’s and Handsworth Booth Street with no trams into Birmingham. It is hoped that this closure will enable the work to be completed and a return to normality for trams from the start of service on Tuesday 12th June but this is yet to be confirmed.
