DLR to launch “Adopt a Station” initiative at Poplar

Station adoption has become a regular feature on the national railway network and now the Docklands Light Railway are to trial a similar scheme with the first station to be selected being Poplar. The “Adopt-a-Station” initiative was launched on 15th February and is designed to help communities, schools and businesses make the most of their local station.

It is hoped that the scheme will deliver benefits for passengers and local residents by utilising space at the station to publicise events, classes and workshops taking place in the local area. It will also provide a platform for art and activities of local schools, gardeners and others.

Mark Davis, Interim General Manager of the DLR, said: “We are delighted to bring our ‘Adopt-a-Station’ programme to Poplar DLR station. Nestled in the shadow of Canary Wharf, the scheme will enable the local area to create a social and engaging hub at the heart of the community. I would encourage as many groups, schools and local businesses to take up this opportunity to bring their own personal touch to their local station.”

Interested parties in adopting Poplar Station are asked to email ambassadors@keolisameydlr.co.uk before 16th March. Any station adoptees must be a member of a group and members of the Associate of Community Rail Partnerships.
