New crossing at Crumpsall

The improvement works at Crumpsall stop on the Manchester Metrolink line to Bury have been continuing over the past few weeks with a new pedestrian crossing opening to passengers on Wednesday 3rd January. This new crossing replaces the old footbridge and ramp which will be demolished later this month.

Crumpsall is being upgraded in preparation for the introduction of new services from Trafford Park. New track will be laid to enable trams to terminate at Crumpsall and return to Trafford Park whilst a larger platform will also be built for Manchester bound services.

Cllr Andrew Fender, Chair of the Transport for Greater Manchester Committee, said: “Work is now well under way on the new Trafford Park line and it’s great to see some of the benefits for passengers already taking shape. The new-look stop will offer a much more accessible, pleasant and safer space for Metrolink passengers. Once the new tram line through to intu Trafford Centre is open it will also mean more frequent services and much improved access to jobs and leisure across the wider tram network.”
