Happy New Year!

And so 2017 is now behind us and we start with another year, a year where we should hopefully see more positive developments on tramways in the British Isles both those systems which provide a daily service to commuters and also those heritage tramways we all seem to enjoy visiting.

It is still a bit early to say just what will happen as although we do have details of some special events at various tramways the nitty gritty details won’t be released until later in 2018. What we do know is that regular events at Blackpool, Crich, Heaton Park and the Manx Heritage Transport Festival will once again run whilst September is set to see a special event on the Manx Electric Railway celebrating the 125th anniversary of that line – with Ratchet Car 14 due to return to service during those festivities.

On those public transport lines we will hope that there will be positive news on the extension of Edinburgh Trams to Leith (in the autumn once results of the inquiry are announced) whilst we could also see movement on more extensions for Midland Metro and of course in Blackpool work will start in earnest on the North Station extension.

And what of British Trams Online? Now that our own Anniversary celebration month is over we will get back to normal with our photo series Picture in Time returning to its 3 time a week frequency, on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. This will be the regular pattern for at least January with traditional trams (non-Blackpool), Blackpool traditional trams and modern trams leading the way. Later on in the year we will return to another world trip of trams with these photo series starting to be provided in rotation. Elsewhere we will continue to bring you all the latest news from across the British Isles although with any luck things will be a bit quieter over the next few weeks than they were in the lead up to Christmas!
