Vinyl wraps arrive in Edinburgh

It has long been rumoured but for the first time one of Edinburgh’s tram fleet is to carry a vinyl wrap livery. The as yet unidentified tram will take to the rails in the Scottish capital this weekend and will be used to advertise events taking place in Edinburgh encouraging people to “decide to glide” to these flagship events.

The first event to be advertised on the tram will be Hogmanay with the message that trams are free after the main event. The tram features vinyls on all sections although it appears that the central cars will be those which feature more adverts – and this will include contravision on the first design.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams General Manager, said: “Our trams offer a fantastic opportunity to promote attractions such as the Festivals, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Royal Highland Show and we’re planning to work with organisers next year to promote the events at the same time as emphasising that our services offer a perfect transport option. Wrapped trams are common in other cities with light rail networks but this is the first time we’ve used the approach in Edinburgh. With the tram travelling through the heart of the city all day, every day it’s a great chance to give our prestige events a further boost.”

Although it has long been rumoured that commercial adverts will arrive in Edinburgh soon this is not a commercial venture with the tram being Edinburgh Trams’ way of promoting the best of what Edinburgh has to offer.
