Picture in Time: Midland Metro 03

The year is 2001 and the tram is Midland Metro T69 03 as we take another look into the archive for the latest edition of Picture in Time.

This photo was taken on 3rd August 2001 and shows T69 03 running between Kenrick Park and Trinity Way with a Birmingham to Wolverhampton service. 03 was delivered to Wednesbury Depot on 17th June 1998 and was soon involved in the testing of the line but just a couple of weeks before opening it was struck by lightning which caused it to spend a number of weeks out of use. Once these repairs had been completed it soon settled into service on the route between Birmingham Snow Hill and Wolverhampton St George’s and remained as part of the operating fleet until December 2013 when it became the third of the T69s to be withdrawn from service. Today it remains at the depot in store awaiting movement for further off site storage.
