Numbers 4 – Great Orme Tramway 4

Another day in December and another tram with a number in this series – we have now reached the number 4.

And we head into North Wales for this edition as the chosen tram for the number 4 has plied its trade on the lower section of the Great Orme Tramway since 1902. 4 is one of four identical trams which have operated on the line ever since it opened, all being built by Hurst Nelson in Motherwell. Two of the trams can be found on the lower section and two on the upper, and the same trams have run the same section for over 120 years. It runs on 3 ‘6” gauge and is a cable tramway – the only remaining tramway of this type in the UK. This photo shows 4 as it arrives back at the Victoria Station terminus on the outskirts of Llandudno Town Centre on 1st May 2016. (Photograph by Gareth Prior, 1st May 2016)
