More Metrolink problems after pantograph damage identified

Manchester Metrolink services were briefly suspended on Monday 14th December after damage to pantographs on some trams was identified – coming just 48 hours after damage to the overhead wires at Cornbrook. Equipment has recently been installed to monitor trams and this identified the problems of some pantographs which led to the decision by KeolisAmey Metrolink to briefly suspend all services while an investigation took place.

Trams in Video: Edinburgh Trams – April 2014

In Pictures: Wilko’s demolished!

It was the blocker for the completion of the extension of the Blackpool Tramway up Talbot Road to Blackpool North Railway Station but it isn’t anymore as the demolition of the old Wilko’s store has now been demolished. That’s right the building which has been in place since 1978 is no more as the last remaining section has now been raised to the ground – although don’t expect trams to be running up Talbot Road for a while yet as there still remains quite a bit of work to be completed before that comes to fruition.

Overhead woes for Metrolink

A major fault with the overhead at Cornbrook on Saturday 12th December saw major disruption for Manchester Metrolink with the repairs taking the best part of the day to complete leading to major disruption for all Metrolink lines except for that between Bury and Piccadilly. An investigation is underway to see what the cause of the problem was with this initially unclear.

Utility diversions underway on Birmingham Eastside extension

Work on diverting utilities on the route of the West Midlands Metro Birmingham Eastside Extension to Digbeth via the HS2 station at Curzon Street is now underway with a water main on New Bartholomew Street being upgraded and future-proofed. To mark the occasion various local dignitaries, including Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street, visited the scene to see the works taking place.

Last remaining Nexus Travelshops to remain closed

Nexus have announced that their six remaining Travelshops at bus and Metro stations will not be reopening, having initially closed at the start of the pandemic overnight on 23rd March. It is said that they are no longer needed as all the services they provided are available online, at ticket machines or through the assistance of staff at bus and Metro stations.
