The pilot to provide discounted travel for visitors and staff to the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital on the West Midlands Metro has been extended for a further 12 months. For the past six months the West Midlands Metro have partnered with the hospital to offer up to 15% off tram fares for patients and their families travelling to the hospital, and it has proved to be a success with loads of people having taken up the offer.
And now as from Wednesday 12th November 2025 the scheme will be a permanent fixture for a further 12 months. It not only benefits those visiting the hospital but also staff members.
Michael Reading-Skilton, Head of Commercial at West Midlands Metro, said: “Over the past six months, the offer has proved popular, and we’re delighted that our partnership with the hospital will become a longer-term arrangement. We know that hospital visits can be stressful for families, and also recognise the fantastic work being done by hospital staff, and we hope this offer will make life a little easier.”
To access the discount, patients and families receive a QR code at the hospital, which can then be scanned to generate an exclusive code for use on the My Metro App. Hospital staff can access the code on the hospital’s internal communication channels.
Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital is just a short walk from Bull Street tramstop.
