Blackpool and Sheffield see delays after storm damage

The first major storm of the new season saw tram services in both Blackpool and Sheffield disrupted as damage was caused to the infrastructure. For Blackpool this led to a partial suspension of the route for around a day whilst in Sheffield it was a much shorter disruption.

The problems in Blackpool were caused by damage to the overhead wires at Waterloo Road with the first reports of the disruption coming at around 1200 on Monday 15th September. The service was suspended between Starr Gate and North Pier whilst trams continued to run from North Pier to Fleetwood.

The repairs to the overhead were completed shortly before 1400 on Tuesday 16th September allowing a full service to resume again.

Meanwhile, over in Sheffield on Monday 15th September a weather damaged tree was the cause close to the Arena/Olympic Legacy Park stop. Maintenance crews were sent to the scene to remove the tree from the tracks. This led to the Tram-Train service being completed suspended whilst the Yellow route only ran Middlewood to Cricket Inn Road. Services were only suspended until the early evening.
