Luas issue update after fire

Luas services are unlikely to be running to The Point until at least the end of November with repair works now underway on the bridge which was damaged by a non-tram related fire on Tuesday 19th August 2025.

The fire broke out underneath George’s Dock Bridge in the IFSC close to Connolly Station at 1900 on Tuesday 19th August 2025 and caused significant damage to the structural beams, abutments and rail systems of the bridge.

Following the fire emergency procedures were immediately put into place which saw all Luas services suspended and it has remained the same ever since. It wasn’t until 23rd August that Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Transdev (operator of Luas) were given access to the bridge to assess the damage and their assessment was that significant damage had occurred.

On Thursday 4th September the overhead wires in the vicinity were removed to allow better access to maintenance crews. Work to demolish the existing bridge deck and install a replacement deck have now started.

It is anticipated that the works will be completed by the end of November.

In the meantime no Luas services are running between Connolly and The Point. A replacement bus service (serving intermediate stops at Spencer Dock, Mayor Square NCI and George’s Dock as well) is running approximately every 10 minutes.
