In Pictures: Supertram trackworks continue

We’re nearly there! There are just a few short days left of trackworks this summer on the South Yorkshire Supertram network before everything goes back to normal and the full system is available for a normal service once again. As we’ve seen before the final section of summer works are taking place on Middlewood Road and in this latest pictorial update that is where we head, with thanks to Stuart Cooke.

These works started on Sunday 17th August (following a one-day gap after the work on the Blue route) and are due to be completed by the end of service on Friday 29th August 2025. During the work no trams have been able to travel beyond Hillsborough towards Middlewood, leading to Yellow route services being diverted to Malin Bridge (along with the usual Blue route services).

The final section of track being replaced is also on Middlewood Road and is on the section between Leppings Lane and the Middlewood terminus. The track being replaced at the time of these photos was the city bound line and here we see old track on the right and the new track being readied for installation.

Plenty of removed track is in the foreground of this image as we see the work taking place at Middlewood Road/Catch Bar Lane junction.

Another view as we see contractors at work installing new track. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 26th August 2025)
