Around the World in Trams: Schoneiche Rudersdorf 52

This is another edition of “Around the World in Trams” coming from Berlin.

As we saw last week the Schoneiche route (no. 88) operates on a metre gauge line. The fleet which operates the route consist of three types of vehicles. The oldest of these are four Düwag GT6 trams which were purchased from Heidelburg and were built in 1966 and 1973. There are other also three Tatra KT4 DNF trams, purchased from Cottbus and Szeged and built in 1987 and 1990. And then more recently three prototype Transtech Artic low floor articulated trams have entered service, No 51 in September 2018 and No 52 in early 2019.  A third, No 53 entered service in March 2020. These units are single end driver’s cab.

And its one of that last fleet of trams which is seen in this photo. Its 52 which is seen at the Friedrichschagen terminus with a view of the non-drivers end. 52 has previously operated in both Helsinki and Wurzburg before making its way to Schoneiche in 2018.
