Christian Wolmar, a well-known journalist, author, and railway historian, will be giving a talk at the Crich Tramway Village on the evening of Friday 19th September 2025. Entitled Trams for the Future – It’s a Moving Story, the talk will look at the changes in public transport in Britain.
Christian Wolmar commented: “Speaking at the museum will be a great honour. I have always argued that the removal of trams from urban centres was the greatest transport policy error of the 20th century. Let’s hope the 21st continues to correct that error. The museum plays an important role in helping people understand this history.”
During the talk he will discuss the growing investment and interest in trams and light rail as a key part of the future of travel, even though the journey may not be entirely smooth especially with government spending under close watch.
Christian Wolmar has written over 20 books on transport and hosts the Calling All Stations podcast. His new book, The Liberation Line, the story of the railway men who rebuilt the railways in Europe after D-Day and helped shorten the war, is out now. He is also an active Labour Party campaigner.
The talk will start at 1900 and tickets are available now. All proceeds will go towards funding a new Access Tram for the museum (Blackpool Centenary 645).
