Evan Moore, now aged 20 from Dublin, has been sentenced to four years in prison (with the last year suspended) for his role in the November 2023 Dublin riots. He admitted to rioting and setting fire to a Luas tram during the riots which came after a woman and three children were injured in a stabbing close to a Dublin primary school.
During the riots Mr Moore, then aged 18, broke the windows of a tram and took a burning bin onto it, setting it on fire. 5 million euros (£4.34m) of damage was caused to the interior of the tram, including wiring.
He was caught six months later after he attended another anti-immigration protest at which point his home was searched, phone seized and he then identified himself on footage which showed him taking the bin onto the tram.
In sentencing the judge took into consideration the fact that Mr Moore has admitted to the crime to the gardai, pleaded guilty and was only 18 at the time. He has also written a letter of apology and completed an online anti-racism course.
