In Pictures: Supertram trackworks continue

In this article we return to South Yorkshire Supertram for an update of the current improvement works taking place on Ridgeway Road, between the tramstops at Manor Top and Hollinsend. As well as seeing the actual rail replacement works we also feature some of the unusual tram moves taking place with a revised service in operation. Stuart Cooke is our photographer.

Although other work is also taking place during this 19 day period (starting 28th July and ending 15th August) the main focus is on renewing the track on Ridgeway Road. That is where this image is taken showing where old track has been removed and the grooves in the road surface now await new sections of track to be installed. Some of the old track is still stored at the side of the compound.

New track is being prepared here with welding in full swing.

Taken from the front of the top deck of a bus we take another look at the worksite on Ridgeway Road. Large sections of new track is just waiting to be installed.

Trams from Halfway have only been running as far as Gleadless Townend during the works, and that is where we see 103 arriving.

103 now pulls forward to use the crossover ahead of returning back to Halfway. Note that the destination display still says Malin Bridge along with the additional information that it will be via replacement bus, which is available from this stop having started back up at Herdings Park.

Trams for the Halfway service are outbased with a spare also provided. On this day 105 was the spare tram as seen here.

Sheffield Station is the other end of the blockade with Blue route services from Malin Bridge terminating there. This photo shows 110 departing from the stop and using the crossover at the start of its journey to Malin Bridge.
