We are at Crich again for this edition of “Picture in Time” with a one of the workhorses of the fleet featured.
There is a pretty strong chance that if you have just paid a random visit to Crich you will have enjoyed a ride on Glasgow 22 with the tram being a regular member of the operating fleet. With its open balconies and attractive Glasgow Corporation Tramways livery it’s a tram which always stands out, even when the weather may be a little bit overcast as it was when this photo was taken at Wakebridge on the way back towards the main site of the museum.
Built in 1922, 22 represents its original condition with open balconies having been restored like that in Glasgow before it moved to Crich and a lengthy career in preservation. It first ran under its own power at Crich in 1964 and since then it has worked in 54 different operating seasons! Considering it was only operational for 38 years in Glasgow it has now been at Crich longer! The tram has had one trip away from Crich too when it moved to the Glasgow Garden Festival in 1988.
