Side by Side: Manchester Metrolink 1021+1012 & 2001

We again see trams “Side by Side” as we continue our latest photographic series with a visit to Manchester.

Not only do we see trams “Side by Side” in this photo its also a bit of a throwback as we go back to 2013 towards the end of the T68 and T68A era on Manchester Metrolink before the Bombardier M5000 takeover was completed. This photo is at Deansgate-Castlefield before the rebuild as T68 2001 heads into the city with a service to Piccadilly which is likely to have started back at Eccles (the route for which the T68As were ordered in the first place of course). It has already called at the citybound platform which is in the distance. At the outbound platform is a double T68 unit with 1021 closest to us and 1012 at the head with a Bury-Altrincham service. It might be white and aqua on the trams but signage on the platform has already gone over to the new yellow corporation identity. (Photograph by Gareth Prior, 23rd March 2013)
